Captain Rolando Mendoza,
was he really that bad?
Highlights of August 23, 2010 news in the Philippines is the hostage taking incident that occured in Quirino Grandstand, Rizal Park, Manila. The hostage taker was Captain Rolando Mendoza who was relieved from office due to extortion case against him. According to the news, 4 people were dead and 1 is in critical condition.
Now the question besets us all is, Who is Captain Rolando Mendoza?
Captain Rolando Mendoza, 56, is a bemedalled cop who was months away from his mandatory retirement from his police service as revealed by the records of the police authorities. As revealed by the DPRM (Director of Police Records and Management, Mendoza should have been an honorable retiree cop who obtained a total of 17 police service medal and a commendation for excellent job performance. Among the awards received were: Medalya ng Papuri; PNP Badge of Honor; Medalya ng Kasanayan; Medalya ng Kagalingan; and Medalya ng Paglilingkod. He was a graduate of the Philippine College of Criminology who entered the law enforcement service through the PC-INP in 1981. Police service apparently runs in the veins of Mendoza's Family.
Hence, it shows that Captain Rolando Mendoza was a dedicated policeman who worked hard during his entire period of service as a policeman. Based on his records, he was a good man who wanted to serve the public.
Why then? It is impossible to believe that a man who have been faithful during the entire period of his service would turn out a be z monster thereafter. What was the reason behind such aggressive acts of a kind hearted man?
Now the next question that besets us, is, "Why did he do such horrible thing?!"
According to reliable sources, trouble in Mendoza's life occured in 2008 when he and at least four other policemen were accused of extorting money from a chef whom they accosted alledgedly for parking violation and possession of illegal drugs.
As a result of these incident, Mendoza meted 90 day preventive suspension. But was reinstated after the suspension was served. But on February 16 of 2009, he was dismissed from service.
According to one policeman, he was depressed due to his early dismissal because the order comes with the forfeiture of his retirement benefits and perpetual disqualification from government service. As mentioned by a doctor, Mendoza's acts was prompted by his depression. Post depression.
Hence, it is sad to say that the big wrong decision of Captain Rolando Mendoza to hostage the Chinese Nationals and Filipinos in the bus was due to his post depression of the dismissal and perpetual disqualification event.
Now these are the questions that worried us,
"Was he really that bad?
What was the reason behind that causes him to shot the victims? Who should be blame?
Do you believe that he really wanted to kill them? Or something or some event prompted him to act aggresively?
Should we blame the police authorities for taking his relatives aggresively?
Was that the reason that prompted him to act like that?
I'll leave all these questions for you to answer and ponder.
the killings won't happen if the police didn't arrested his brother.. they shouldn't let the hostage taker panic. Everything is under smooth operation until they did that. He was in a severe depression, that's why when he saw what they are doing to his bro he went berserk and it looks like he was out of his mind. Poor tourist.. supposed to be a happy vacation turned into terrifying and horrible end..Let's just pray for the souls of the victims..
ReplyDeletebefore we judge the person... let us go back to history, what made him do it, as per info, during the hulidap event, capt mendoza was not present, his name was only dragged/name dropped by his men during the investigation, thats why he was included in that crime,...command responsiblity so to speak...
ReplyDeletedo u really think that he will hostage the bus if he really was involve? mind u that he was a be medalled cop.. a cop who returns a P65M to the rightfull owner....(thats honesty),
hostaging a bus is not that easy, if u really are guilty, you in the right mind will not do it because it will expose u more... he only wants to clear his name and get what is rightfull his(to retire with dignity).
to my own opinion, the level of thinking the police have now is to harsh...they dont think the safety of hostages, they dont know how to handle hostage situation.. as far as i know, every hostage situation we have, hostages die because of poor thinking... mahiya hiya naman kau.....
It is so sad that his tragic event occur. And it event occurred in Rizal Park. Policeman protocols in containing hostage taking incident should have been examined now. It is difficult to act aggressively especially when the hostage taker is experiencing some emotional issues or difficulty.
ReplyDeleteIn such event he is not acting properly. His judgment is making abrupt decisions is clouded by his emotions. Authorities should practice on how to deal with this kind of hostage taker because it seems like they are not a pro.
I agree with you jun. History must be taken into account before judging a person. All circumstances in his life matters justs like cases in courts are tackled. What happened in the past? Check his credibility? Was he really that bad? Check his emotional depression level.
ReplyDeletePeople must examine all the circumstances first before condemning a person. He may have acted aggressively under such incident but there is a reason behind such acts. He musts not look only on the negative side, we musts try to hear and examine the side of the other party.
To all the relatives of the victims, my condolences are with you.
"Was he really that bad?
ReplyDeleteI dont think he is really bad. In his almost 27 years of service he showed excellence in his career. He was forced to do the hostage-taking due to the lost of hope in returning to his job. He is just so depressed. It was the society that forced him to do what he had done.
What was the reason behind that causes him to shot the victims? Who should be blame?
It was because the authorities did not give him what he wanted to have. I understand that the authorities can't just easily jump into actions because if they do so lots of suspended police will do the same just to get what they wanted. Partly, I blame Mendoza. he was being irrational and he should have acted responsively and maturely. By the way I see it, he is being childish and selfish by blackmailing people and thinking only himself.
Do you believe that he really wanted to kill them? Or something or some event prompted him to act aggresively?
I dont think he really wanted to kill those poor chinese people. If the authorities had given him what he wanted he will not kill them. But the authorities did not submit to what he wanted, which I rejoiced since this means that the authorities cannot be easily manipulated by some childish action.
Should we blame the police authorities for taking his relatives aggresively?
Yes, they should had been more gentle.
Was that the reason that prompted him to act like that?
One of the reasons maybe.
